The brisbane event I attended today had 7 web companies (that I am aware of) of some shape or form represented. Here they are in no particular order:
- Platform Interactive (http://www.platforminteractive.com.au)
- Tecko Gecko (http://www.teckogecko.com.au)
- Wildfire Web Development (http://www.wildfireweb.com.au)
- Nomtec (http://nomtech.com)
- Aspedia (http://aspedia.net)
- Rocketseed (http://www.rocketseed.com)
- Internet Pro (http://www.internetpro.com.au) <— That’s me…
In a room of 55, 12% represented web firms. Apparently this is not regular representation, but wow.
Even with that many web people at an event with the speaker talking about free Web2.0 tools, it seemed I was the only person with their hand up when the speaker was looking for knowledge of partcular web applications.
I made a point of introducing myself to the other web firms, and the fact that I am peddling my Web Mechanic service, which focuses on repairing websites once they break down, rather than developing or redeveloping them seemed to be a niche that they didn’t cater for, and in fact they said they would keep me in mind for referals (I’m not holding my breath)
I don’t really expect any business from competing companies, but at least now I know where I stand in this particular network.
If you’re a fellow web person who attends networking events, I’d be interested to learn about the ratio of web people to other businesses there are in the room.
