Have Skittles just made a mistake?

Skittles have just pointed their website to twitter search results for skittles.  Now anyone who mentions skittles in their tweet appears in the results and on the front page of skittles.com

Is this genius or idiocy?

Now, any competitor can get their brand infront of a skittles audience.  ie “M&Ms rule, Skittles Suck. (link to MMs site)”

Everyone is talking about skittles, and it has quickly become a hot trend on twitter. So their brand is immediately on the tip of a lot of people’s tounges.

I think very quickly this will turn into a game because the technology is so easy (and cheap) to make it happen.

Maybe they do this, I link to skittles.com in my blog post, mentioning associated candy words and 3 days later when they flip the switch back to their regular skittles site, they suddenly have a massive increase in their traffic?

Oh, there’s so many possibilities, but what do you think?  Have skittles lost their mind, or is this the cleverest viral campaign you’ve seen yet?
