Social media isn’t about building social network websites. It is about participating, connecting with people, and sharing stuff, be it video, audio, photos, bad poetry, or your opinion (vote on something) on existing networks.
The key is CONTENT. To play the game, you need to generate the stuff that people want to share, or create a way / reason for users to generate that content for you.
Do you have something people will want to share? Can you give them a reason to share it?
As an exercise, think about why someone would want to become a fan of your facebook page? Can you create a compelling reason?
